Privacy Policy

Jessica Sharon SLP is a sole proprietorship operated by Jessica Sharon, M.S., CCC-SLP ("Jessica Sharon SLP," "we," "us," "our"). This policy explains what information we collect through jsharonslp.com, how we use it, and how we protect the information you share with us as a client.

We have written this in plain language on purpose. If anything here is unclear, please ask.

The short version

  • We collect only what we need: what you type into our contact form, what you provide when you book or pay, and basic technical information your browser sends.

  • We do not sell your information, and we do not share it for advertising.

  • What you discuss in sessions is confidential and is not disclosed without your written authorization, except in the narrow circumstances described below under Limits to confidentiality.

  • You can ask us at any time what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it.

1. Information we collect through this website

Information you give us. When you complete the discovery-call form, we collect your first and last name, email address, phone number (optional), preferred method of contact, and whatever you choose to write in the message field.

Please do not include detailed health or diagnostic information in that message field. A short description of what you are looking for is all we need at that stage. Anything more sensitive is better shared once we are in a secure channel.

Information you give us when you book or pay. If you book a session or purchase a plan, you provide your name, contact details, and appointment preferences. Payment card details are collected and processed by our payment processor. We never see or store your full card number.

Information collected automatically. Like most websites, this one records basic technical information: IP address, browser and device type, pages viewed, and referring site. This comes from our website platform's built-in analytics and is used to understand how the site is performing.

2. How we use this information

We use it to:

  • respond to your enquiry and schedule a discovery call

  • schedule, deliver, and manage sessions

  • process payments and issue receipts, invoices, and superbills

  • send you appointment reminders and administrative messages about your care

  • keep the records that professional and legal obligations require us to keep

  • understand how the website is used so we can improve it

We do not use your information for advertising, and we do not build marketing profiles.

3. We do not sell your information

We have never sold personal information and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing purposes.

4. Cookies and analytics

This site is built on Wix, which sets cookies necessary for the site to function and, where enabled, cookies for analytics. You can control cookies through your browser settings; blocking essential cookies may prevent parts of the site from working.

5. Service providers we rely on

Running the practice means using a small number of third-party services. Each of them receives only what it needs to do its job.

We choose providers that offer appropriate security protections, and where a provider handles clinical information we seek a business associate agreement or equivalent contractual protection.

6. Confidentiality of clinical information

Information you share in the course of speech-language services — what is discussed in sessions, assessment findings, session notes, and the fact that you are a client at all — is treated as confidential.

We do not disclose it to anyone, including family members other than a legal guardian of a minor client, without your written authorization.

7. Limits to confidentiality

There are a small number of circumstances in which the law requires or permits disclosure without your authorization:

  • Suspected abuse or neglect of a child, an elderly person, or a person with a disability. As a licensed professional, Jessica is a mandated reporter and must report a reasonable suspicion to the appropriate authority.

  • Serious and imminent risk of harm to you or to an identifiable other person, where disclosure is necessary to protect against that harm.

  • A valid court order or subpoena. We will notify you where we are permitted to do so and will assert applicable privileges on your behalf where appropriate.

  • Where you ask us to. For example, when you want records shared with a school, physician, or another provider — this requires your written authorization, which you can revoke at any time going forward.

We disclose only the minimum necessary in each case, and we will tell you when a disclosure has been made unless we are prohibited from doing so.

8. Clients under 18

We work with clients as young as 13. For a client under 18:

  • A parent or legal guardian must consent to services and is the party to our service agreement.

  • A parent or legal guardian generally has the right to access their child's records.

  • Effective work with adolescents depends on the client feeling safe to speak openly. We therefore agree at the start how session content will be shared with parents — typically progress, goals, and themes, rather than a transcript of what was said. Anything that raises a safety concern is always shared.

We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13 through this website. If you believe a child under 13 has submitted information to us, please contact us and we will delete it.

9.

Jessica Sharon SLP is a private-pay practice that does not transmit health information electronically in connection with insurance claims, and so is not a covered entity under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). We nonetheless hold client information to the confidentiality standards described in this policy and those required of licensed speech-language pathologists by state law and by the professional code of ethics of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.

10. Your rights

You may ask us at any time to:

  • tell you what information we hold about you

  • provide a copy of your records

  • correct information you believe is inaccurate

  • delete information, where we are not required to retain it

  • stop sending you non-essential messages

Write to us and we will respond within 30 days. There is no charge for a reasonable request.

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under state privacy law. We apply the rights above to everyone regardless of location.

11. How long we keep information

Enquiries that do not become clients are deleted within 12 months.

Client records are retained for the period required of licensed speech-language pathologists in the state where services were provided — at minimum six years from the last date of service, and for a client who was a minor, six years from the date they turn 18, whichever is later.

Payment records are retained as long as tax and accounting rules require.

12. Security

We use reputable platforms with encryption in transit, access controls, and multi-factor authentication on accounts that hold client information. Video sessions are conducted on Google Meets or Zoom

No system is perfectly secure. Please do not send sensitive clinical detail by ordinary email or text; we will tell you the secure way to send anything that needs to reach us.

13. Links to other sites

This site links to our Instagram profile. Once you leave jsharonslp.com, this policy no longer applies and the other site's own policy governs.

14. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy we will update the date at the top and, where the change is significant, tell current clients directly.
